IN BRIEF
Family Tenure is a Pro Insights metric that measures how long a family remains connected to your program, from their very first enrollment through their final enrollment. This calculation includes any gaps between enrollments and is always reported in total months to provide consistent, long-term engagement insights.
Overview
Family Tenure measures the total length of a family’s relationship with your organization. Rather than focusing on individual students or continuous enrollment, this metric looks at the overall timeframe in which a family participated in your program.
Key characteristics of Family Tenure include:
- Measurement begins with the family’s first-ever enrollment.
- Measurement ends with the family’s final enrollment.
- Breaks in enrollment do not reset or shorten the tenure.
- Multiple students within the same family are evaluated together as a single unit.
- Results are reported in total months for consistency across analytics.
This metric helps identify long-term engagement patterns and supports broader enrollment trend analysis within Pro Insights.
Deleting source data will affect the accuracy of results.
How is Family Tenure Calculated?
- Starts with the family’s first active enrollment: The tenure clock begins when the first student in the family enrolls.
- Ends with the family’s last enrollment: It ends when the last student in the family exits.
- Gaps are included: Any time between enrollments (even if no students were actively enrolled for a while) is still included in the total tenure.
- Measured in months: For consistency, Family Tenure is reported in total months.
Formula
Using these numbers, Pro Insights uses the following formula to calculate the Family Tenure:
Total number of months between the Family’s First Enrollment until the Family’s Last Enrollment = Family Tenure
Example
If a family:
- Enrolled their first student in January 2020
- Had multiple students come and go over time
- Had their last student exit on March 2024
Then:
Family Tenure = 50 months (i.e., From January 2020 to March 2024 = 50 months)
NOTE: Even if there were months with no active enrollments, these are still included in the calculation.
This metric reflects the overall length of a family's relationship with your program, helping you understand engagement and loyalty at a broader level.
Troubleshooting & FAQs
-
Why does Family Tenure include months when no students were enrolled?
- Family Tenure is designed to measure the overall relationship timeframe with your organization. Including gaps provides a more accurate picture of long-term engagement rather than only continuous enrollment periods.
-
Does enrolling multiple students increase Family Tenure?
- No. Family Tenure is based on dates, not the number of students. Multiple students are evaluated together under the same family timeline.
-
What happens if enrollment history is deleted?
- Deleting source enrollment data will affect the accuracy of Family Tenure results, as the calculation depends on historical enrollment records.
-
Can I manually adjust Family Tenure values?
- No. Family Tenure is calculated automatically by Pro Insights based on enrollment data and cannot be edited manually.
