IN BRIEF:
Class occupancy shows how full a class is based on paid student enrollments compared to the class’s maximum capacity. Pro Insights uses this calculation to generate analytics and help identify enrollment trends across classes.
Overview
Class occupancy refers to the number of students actively enrolled in a class compared to that class’s defined maximum capacity. This metric allows administrators and instructors to quickly assess how full a class is and supports accurate reporting within Pro Insights.
Deleting source data will affect the accuracy of results.
How Occupancy is Calculated
Pro Insights calculates class occupancy using only committed, paid enrollments. This ensures the data reflects students who are actively part of the class on an ongoing basis.
The following enrollment types are handled as described below:
-
Included in occupancy calculations:
- Students enrolled with an ACTIVE enrollment type.
- Students enrolled with a SINGLE DAY enrollment type.
-
Excluded from occupancy calculations:
- Students attending as a MAKEUP.
- Students attending as a TRIAL.
Makeup and trial enrollments are excluded because they do not represent ongoing or paid participation in the class.
Formula
Using these numbers, Pro Insights uses the following formula to calculate the Occupancy:
- (ACTIVE enrollments + SINGLE DAY enrollments) ÷ Total Capacity = Occupancy
- Occupancy x 100 = Percentage Occupancy
Example
If a class has a maximum capacity of 10 students, and there are:
- 7 ACTIVE-type enrollments
- 1 SINGLE DAY-type enrollment
- 1 MAKEUP-type enrollment, and
- 1 TRIAL
Then:
Occupancy = 80%
(i.e., ((7 ACTIVE enrollments + 1 SINGLE DAY enrollment) ÷ 10 ) x 100 = 80%)
This ensures your occupancy reports reflect accurate, up-to-date class attendance based on committed students.
Troubleshooting & FAQs
-
Why are makeup or trial students not included in class occupancy?
- Makeup and trial enrollments are excluded because they do not represent paid, ongoing participation in the class and could distort true capacity usage.
-
Are SINGLE DAY enrollments always included in occupancy?
- Yes. SINGLE DAY enrollments are included because they represent paid attendance and count toward class capacity.
-
What happens if I delete enrollment data used in occupancy calculations?
- Deleting source enrollment data can affect the accuracy of occupancy results and related Pro Insights reports.
-
Does class occupancy update automatically when enrollments change?
- Yes. Occupancy calculations reflect current enrollment data, so changes to ACTIVE or SINGLE DAY enrollments will update reported occupancy.
