These instructions assume the user has Administrative permissions to both Power BI and the Enterprise Portal.
How do I grant users access to a Power BI Workspace?
- Navigate to your Power BI Home screen (https://app.powerbi.com/home).
- NOTE: If prompted, you may need to log in.
- Expand the "Workspaces" area in the navigation menu on the left-hand side of the screen.
- Click on the name of the Workspace for which you wish to grant user access.
- From the toolbar at the top of the window, click "Access."
- Enter the email address of the user for whom you wish to grant access, choose a permission level, then click "Add."
- Once you have added all users, click "Close."
Where do I find the link to embed a Power BI report?
Enabling the "Embed content in apps" permission in Power BI
To find the link to embed a Power BI report, first check to ensure that you have allowed the "Embed content in apps" permission from your Power BI Admin Portal.
- Navigate to https://app.powerbi.com/admin-portal.
- Under "Tenant Settings", scroll to the "Developer Settings" area.
- If it is not already active, enable the option to "Embed content in apps."
- By default, this will apply to all users in the organization. If necessary, you can adjust this to "Specific security groups" but be aware that this may affect which users can/cannot view the report in the Enterprise Portal.
Locating the embed link
After you have enabled the "Embed content in apps" permission, you can obtain the link you will need to embed the Power BI report in the Enterprise Portal.
- Navigate to your Power BI Home screen (https://app.powerbi.com/home).
- NOTE: If prompted, you may need to log in.
- Expand the "Workspaces" area in the navigation menu on the left-hand side of the screen.
- Click on the name of the Workspace containing the report for which you wish to grant user access.
- Click on the report name to open it.
- Click on the "File" menu in the toolbar at the top of the report, then choose "Embed Report."
- Click on "Website or portal." This will launch a window titled "Securely embed this report in a website or portal."
- Copy the link displayed in "Here's a link you can use to embed this content."
How do I embed the Power BI report in the Enterprise Portal?
To embed the Power BI report in the Enterprise Portal, you just need to add the link to the profile of each user that should have access to it.
- Navigate to the Enterprise Portal Users page (https://enterprise.iclasspro.com/users).
- Click the pencil/edit icon next to the user for whom you wish to grant access to the embedded Power BI report.
- In the "Power BI Details" section, click the embed link you copied into the "Power BI Link" field.
- Click the green checkmark/save icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen to update the user's settings.
Viewing the embedded report
Once the link has been saved, the user will be able to view the Power BI report by navigating to the "Dashboard" screen in the Enterprise Portal.
NOTE: If the user has been granted access to view the Power BI report, the Dashboard view will now show two options: Power BI and Enterprise Portal. This view will always default to the Power BI report; however, they can switch between the two views by clicking the appropriate option at the top of the page.
