How Do Tuition Schedule "Count By" Settings Affect Pricing?

IN BRIEF
The "Count By" settings in a Tuition Schedule determine how the System calculates pricing based on the number of students and enrollments in a family. These settings control how students and classes are counted and ranked, directly impacting how tuition is applied.

Overview

The “Count By” settings when configuring your Tuition Schedule will affect how students and lessons are ranked to figure how much each student should be charged.

In the examples below:

  • Students are represented by GREEN NUMBERS
  • Lessons (classes/hours/time slots) are represented by BLUE LETTERS
  • COLUMNS represent the number of students in the family
  • ROWS represent the number of lessons (classes/hours/time slots)
  • Therefore, cell references represent STUDENT : LESSONS

Note: It should be noted that mixing tuition schedules with classes using different billing setups is not advised, as this can cause the system to calculate classes/hours/timeslots differently than expected. (For example, using the same tuition schedule with a class that bills by "Flat Rate" and another class that bills "Hourly").

Troubleshooting & FAQs

  • Why are my tuition amounts different than expected?
    • Review both the Count Classes/Time Slots/Hours By and Count Students By settings. These directly control how pricing tiers are applied.
  • Can I mix billing types within the same tuition schedule?
    • This is not advised. Mixing billing setups (such as Flat Rate and Hourly) may cause calculations to behave unexpectedly.
  • Why are classes being ranked differently?
    • In some scenarios, classes are ranked based on the highest tuition, which can affect which pricing tier is applied first.
