IN BRIEF:
Many browsers (such as Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox) include a built-in PDF viewer that opens documents in the browser window. This can sometimes cause issues with loading, printing, or formatting. However, you can change your browser settings to always download PDFs instead of opening them automatically.
Overview
Most current browsers ship with a built-in PDF viewer that displays documents inside the browser. If this causes problems, you can disable the viewer and force the browser to download the file so it can be opened in your preferred PDF reader.
Important Note: Safari does not currently allow disabling automatic PDF viewing. Once the PDF is opened in Safari, you can save the file to your device from there.
Microsoft Edge
- Select the Settings and more icon (three horizontal dots) and choose Settings.
- Select Cookies and site permissions.
- Under All permissions, choose PDF documents.
- Turn on Always download PDF files.
Google Chrome
- Select the Menu icon (three vertical dots).
- Select Settings.
- Select Privacy and security.
- Select Site settings.
- Expand Additional content settings, then select PDF documents.
- Enable Download PDFs.
Mozilla Firefox
- Select the Menu icon (three horizontal lines).
- Select Settings.
- In the General panel, scroll to Files and Applications.
- Under Applications, enter PDF in the search box.
- In the Action column, choose Save file.
- Close the tab — Firefox saves changes automatically.
More Helpful Hints
- After adjusting settings, all PDFs generated in iClassPro will download to your computer when you select the Background Task.
- If you have enabled the option to ask where to save each file, you will be prompted to choose a location. Otherwise, files will download automatically to your browser’s default download directory.
- You can open the file in any PDF viewer you prefer.
- Before printing, always check the document orientation (portrait or landscape) to avoid wasting paper.
