IN BRIEF
Push notifications allow you to send short, immediate alerts to guardians who have installed the iClassPro App or a branded version of the app on their mobile device. These notifications function similarly to SMS/text messages but are sent directly to a device that has enabled app notifications. Each device receives only one notification, even if multiple students or enrollments are selected.
Overview
Push notifications provide a quick way to reach families using the iClassPro App or Branded App. Because notifications are tied to the device itself—not a specific guardian—each device will receive only one message regardless of the number of selected students or enrollments.
Important Notes:
- Push notifications are not guardian-specific. They are linked to the device used to access the app.
- From the CLASSES and CAMPS pages, Push notifications are only sent to families with at least one student who has an ACTIVE type enrollment. To message families associated with other enrollment types, send Push notifications from the ENROLLMENTS page instead.
- From the CAMPS page, the Send Push Notification Message dialog allows additional filtering to:
Send one SMS notification per family
Send one SMS notification per student
Send one SMS notification per enrollment
Limit recipients only to families with students attending during a specified date range.
Accessing the Feature
- Go to one of the following pages in the Office Portal:
- FAMILIES
- STUDENTS
- CLASSES
- CAMPS
- ENROLLMENTS
- Select the families, students, classes, or enrollments you want to notify.
- Select the Push Notification icon in the toolbar to open the Send Push Notification Message dialog.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Go to the FAMILIES, STUDENTS, CLASSES, CAMPS, or ENROLLMENTS page.
- Select the families, students, classes, or enrollments you wish to notify.
- NOTE: From the CLASSES and CAMPS Pages, the system will only send Push notifications to families who have a student with an ACTIVE type enrollment. If you need to send to other enrollment types, it is recommended to send the Push notification from the ENROLLMENTS page instead so you can select these specific enrollment types.
- Click the PUSH NOTIFICATION icon in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen to launch the "Send Push Notification Message" window:
- The "Send Push Notification Message" window will include at least the following information (the CAMPS page will also allow additional filtering by specific enrollment scenarios):
- Select Template - if a custom Push Notification template exists for the page from which you are accessing the Push Notification window, it will be listed in the drop-down menu for you to choose.
- NOTE: selecting a template will automatically populate the "Title" and "Message" fields.
- Push Notification Details
- "# of Push Notification messages being sent"
- IMPORTANT NOTE: This number is an estimate of how many devices could potentially receive the message based on the number of device tokens issued when the app was installed. Therefore, this number may include multiple devices per family, and it cannot take into account users who may have disabled notifications from the app, installed but later uninstalled the app, or who may have switched devices since the app was first installed.
- "# of Push Notification messages being sent"
- Subject - allows you to enter the Subject to be used for the Push notification. (NOTE: This field is not displayed if the "Push Notification Details" shows "0" messages to be sent.)
- Message - allows you to enter the main text of the Push notification. Includes a running character count. (NOTE: This field is not displayed if the "Push Notification Details" shows "0" messages to be sent.)
- Select Template - if a custom Push Notification template exists for the page from which you are accessing the Push Notification window, it will be listed in the drop-down menu for you to choose.
- Once you have entered the required information, click SEND. Families who have the iClassPro App/Branded App installed on at least one device (and who have allowed notifications) will receive your message.
Troubleshooting & FAQs
-
Why does the Push Notification Message window show “0” messages to be sent?
- No associated devices have active notification tokens. This may occur if guardians uninstalled the app, disabled notifications, or never installed the app on any device.
-
What happens if I include invalid variables in my message?
- If invalid variables would cause the customer to receive a blank Push notification, the System prevents the message from sending and logs an error in the Background Tasks.
-
Why is the estimated number of messages higher than the number of families selected?
- The estimate reflects the number of device tokens issued. A single family may have multiple devices with valid tokens.
